Professor
Boqin Qiang, Chairman of the Scientific
Advisory Board, is a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He held the titles of Chief Scientist of Chinese National
Hi-Tech Development Program, Chief Scientist of National
Science Foundation, Vice President of Peking Union Medical
College, and Vice President of Chinese Academy of Medical
Science Research. He is a pioneer in Chinese genomics
research and is also the director of Chinese National
Human Genome Center at Beijing.
Dr. Ken-ichi Arai
received his M.D. degree in 1967 from Faculty of Medicine,
the University of Tokyo and Ph. D. degree in Biochemistry
in 1974 from Department of Chemistry, Institute of Medical
Science, University of Tokyo. He became a Instructor
of Chief of Department of Chemistry, Institute of Medical
Science, University of Tokyo in 1974, a Fellow of Department
of Biochemistry, Stanford University School of Medicine
(1977-1980). After this position, Dr. Arai held the
positions of Director in Molecular Biology of DNAX Research
Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, U.S.A.
(1981-1990), Professor of Department of Molecular and
Developmental Biology, Institute of Medical Science,
University of Tokyo (1989-present), and Distinguished
Visiting Scientist of DNAX Research Institute of Molecular
and Cellular Biology, U.S.A. (1990-present). His professional
specificity is Biochemistry, Molecular Biology (Enzyme
mechanism of DNA replication, gene expression, and signal
transduction), Molecular Immunology and Hematology.
He also serves as editorial board of several international
journals.
Dr. Kaixian Chen
is a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the President
of Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Research; He
graduated from physics department, Fudan University
in 1967. He received his doctor's degree in Shanghai
Institute of Materia Medica in 1985 and did his postdoctor's
research at the Institute of biophysics and biochemistry
at Paris. He is currently member of expert committee
for National New Drug Research and Development Program.
Dr. Zhu Chen
is the Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences,
and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is
also the director of Shanghai Institute of Hematology,
at Ruijin Hospital and Chinese National Human Genome
Center at Shanghai. He obtained his D.Sc. at the University
Paris VII, France, conducting genetic research in hematology.
As a coordinator of the Human Genome Project (HGP) in
China, he played key role in organizing the Chinese
human genome society. He is also the Chief Scientist
of the Chinese National Hi-Tech Development Program.
Dr. Lewis L. Lanier
is a professor of the Microbiology/Immunology Department
and Cancer Research Institute of UCSF. Dr. Lanier received
his Ph.D. in Immunology from University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill in 1978, and later finished his post-doctoral
training at University of New Mexico. He then joined
Becton Dickinson as a senior scientist and became a
key member in setting up BD's monoclonal antibody business.
He was an associate director in Becton Dickinson Immunocytometry
Systems before he moved to DNAX Research Institute in
1991. At DNAX, he held various titles such as Senior
Scientific Staff, Associate Director, and Director of
Immunobiology. In 1999, he joined University of California,
San Francisco as a faculty member. Dr. Lanier has made
many seminal discoveries in the areas of natural immunity
and tumor immunology. He is on the editorial board of
several major immunology journals, and is currently
the councilor of the American Association of Immunologists.
Prof. Yong-Jun Liu
is an internationally known expert in tumor immunology.
He is the chairman of Immunology Department of MD Anderson
Cancer Center at The University of Texas. He obtained
his M.D. degree from Norman Bethune University School
of Medicine in China and his Ph.D. from the Department
of Immunology, Birmingham School of Medicine in the
United Kingdom. He did immunology research at the pharmaceutical
company Schering-Plough in France and later joined the
biotech company DNAX 1997. He is a member of the New
York Academy of Sciences and the American Association
for Immunology. He has more than 100 publications in
Journals like Science, Nature and Immunity. He¡¯s considered
a leader in the field of tumor immunology.
Dr. Yixue Li
is the Director of Bioinformatics Center of Shanghai
Institute for Biological Science, and Chair of the expert
committee for the Bioinformatics Technology Section
of Chinese National Hi-Tech Development Program. In
1996, he received the doctor's degree of physics at
Heidelberg University, Germany. From 1997 to 2000, he
continued his research work in biophysics field at European
Molecular Biology Lab (EMBL).
Dr. Xinyu Qin
is the Vice President of Shanghai Zhong Shan Hospital.He
finished his medical school in Shanghai Second Medical
University,and then received his MS degree in Shanghai
Medical University.He later went to Great Britain and
received his Ph.D. degree from London University in
1988.He serves on the advisory board of many scientific
organizations,and is member of the editorial board of
several clinical research journals.As a surgeon.Dr.
Qin is an expert in cancer therapy.
Dr. Thomas A. Raffin
is the Professor and Chief (1991) of the Division of
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University
Medical Center. He is also the Co-Founder (1989) and
Co-Director of the Stanford University Center for Biomedical
Ethics. Dr. Raffin was honored with the Colleen and
Robert Haas Professorship in Medicine and Biomedical
Ethics in 1999. He graduated from Stanford University
in 1968 and later received his MD from Stanford University
School of Medicine. He completed his internship and
residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston
and returned to Stanford as a fellow in pulmonary and
critical care medicine. He joined the clinical faculty
at Stanford in 1980. He is a cofounder of Rigel Pharmaceuticals,
and is also on the scientific advisory board of many
biotech companies.
Professor Binggen Ru
is a professor of Department of Biochemistry of Beijing
University, in charge of the protein structure &
function research in the National Laboratory of Protein
Engineering and Plant Gene Engineering. He graduated
from Beijing University with a master degree in 1965.
During 1983-1985 he is a visiting scholar in the department
of biochemistry, the State University of New York. He
currently serves on panel of State Drug Administration
(Chinese FDA), responsible for new drug evaluation,
imported drug evaluation and biological products standardization.
He is also editor of several keynote National Journals,
and scientific consultant of the Amersham Biosciences
(China) Limited.
Dr. Arthur Weiss
received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at the University
of Chicago, and later did his postdoctoral work at the
Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research, Lausanne.
He joined UCSF as a faculty member in 1985, and is the
chief of Rheumatology/Clinical Immunology Division.
He is also the Ephraim P. Engleman Distinguished Professor
of Rheumatology and Professor of Medicine and of Microbiology
and Immunology at UCSF. As an investigator of Howard
Hughes Medical Institute, he is well known for his great
contributions in the fields of activation of T lymphocytes
and transplantation immunology. He serves on the scientific
advisory boards of many biomedical firms in US.
Dr. Yue Xiong
is now the Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry
& Biophysics, The University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, he is also the member of Program in Molecular
Biology & Biotechnology, Lineberger Comprehensive
Cancer Center, the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. He received his Ph.D. from the department of Biology,
the University of Rochester, He did postdoctoral work
in Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is an expert
in Mammalian Cell Cycle Control and Tumor Suppression;
he has more than 60 publications on famous Journals
like Cell and Science.
