Shanghai Genomics (SG) can provide a whole suite of services to validate gene functions in different cell signaling pathways. Proteins and antibodies are generated in-house to facilitate in-vitro and in-vivo target validations. Animal models can be established with IVIS (in-vivo imaging system).
Shanghai Genomics is one of the first businesses in China to utilize the power of real time in-vivo imaging technology to monitor real time disease progress and to better understand the mechanisms of drugs in living animals. The in-vivo imaging technology has been widely accepted by the biotech industry; data generated by IVIS systems have been included in many IND filings with the FDA. The scientists at SG have generated various firefly luciferase labeled mouse and human tumor cells by utilizing in-vivo biotechnology.
Shanghai Genomics provides services relating to animal model development using luciferase-labeled cell lines, and drug efficacy tests in the available animal models. The mouse animal models available at SG include the traditional subcutaneous (xenograft), intravenous and intraperitoneal, and the advanced intracardiac and orthotopic model.
Substrate luciferin cells produce visible light which can be detected by an ultra sensitive CCD camera. Luciferin cells can be safely used in either cell culture mediums or in living animals. A typical drug efficacy experiment will have 5 groups of animals, with each group ranging from 3 to 6 nude or SCID mice. There are usually three doses of drug candidates to be tested, the reference compound, sham and control. Disease progress can be monitored real time in live animals inoculated with luciferase-labeled cell lines by using the IVIS biotechnology. Upon the completion of the experiment, any ex-vivo IVIS visualized metastases tumor on the major organs of the sacrificed mice will be verified by traditional histopathological analysis. |
