2004/11/21    Mr. Wang Ningsheng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of People's Congress of Guangdong Province, visited Shanghai Genomics.  Mr. Wang pointed out that the company's biopharmaceutical platform should be used for the modernization of Chinese traditional medicine. 

2004/11/19    The State Food and Drug Administration of China (SFDA) accepted Shanghai Genomics’ application to conduct clinical trials on the investigational new drug F647 for the treatment of acute lung injury.  The company started the research and development of the F647 in 2002, and completed all the required preclinical studies according to the rules and regulations of the SFDA. 

2004/11/11    Dr. Xiaoqing Sun, Vice President of Shanghai Genomics, attended and gave a speech at the 7th China-Korea Scientific Exchange Conference in Qingdao, China.  Dr. Sun outlined Shanghai Genomics’ R&D platform and specifically discussed the discovery of novel kinases in cell cycle regulation.

2004/10/05    The Editor of Nature Biotechnology, Mr. Sabine Lout interviewed Dr. Jun Wu at Shanghai Genomics about the current trend of drug discovery in China and the opportunity for Western pharmaceutical companies to outsource some of their research efforts to Asia.  In an article published later, Dr. Wu pointed out that in addition to offering Western partners lower costs, outsourcing to Chinese pharmaceutical industry also offers them another strategic advantage, abundant clinical resources (http://www.nature.com/nbt/journal/v22/n12/full/nbt1204-1497.html).

2004/09/28    The Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Mrs. Yan Junqi, visited Shanghai Genomics. Dr. Ying Luo and Dr. Jun Wu described the company's recent R&D progress with a focus on the recent trend of international companies outsourcing their research to China.  Vice Mayor Yan pointed out that the biotech industry is a very important part of Shanghai's future development plan.  She also discussed how to promote faster growth of the biotech industry in Shanghai.  Mr. Li Yiping, Director of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, and Mrs. Shang Yuying, Deputy Governor of Pudong New Area of Shanghai, also attended the meeting.

2004/09/25    Dr. Ying Luo attended the "Shanghai Pudong Sea Turtle Entrepreneurship Roundtable Meeting" sponsored by the Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association.  Dr. Luo discussed the domestic venture capital environment and new business models for biotech companies.  He specifically pointed out that the biotech industry in Shanghai should actively look for outsourced research projects from the Western pharmaceutical industry.  Mrs. Shang Yuying, Deputy Governor of Pudong New Area of Shanghai and more than 70 returned scholars attended the meeting.

2004/09/21    Dr. Ying Luo was invited to give a speech at the "2004 Across the Strait Biotech Forum" in Shanghai.  At the event he analyzed the complementary strengths across the strait and proposed new models for collaboration with Taiwan’s biotech industry.  He emphasized that collaboration can significantly reduce the cost of new drug development and speed up clinical studies.  More than 60 people from both Taiwan and Shanghai attended the meeting.

2004/07/15    Mr. Ding Xuexiang, Deputy Head of the Department of Organization of the Communist Party of Shanghai and Director of Human Resources of Shanghai Municipal Government, visited Shanghai Genomics with other government officials.  He praised the company’s teamwork model and expressed his support for returnees to come to work at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park.  He also encouraged the company to become a leader in obtaining outsourced research work from international pharma companies.

2004/06/06    Dr. Ying Luo presented at the SAPA West Conference in Milpitas, California.  His presentation about his first-hand experience in founding a biotech company in China was welcomed by the audience.  He specifically emphasized the importance of teamwork and financially-sound business models in China.  He also pointed out that research outsourcing is a trend in North America and that Shanghai Genomics is a strong leader in that area.  Dr. Jun Wu, CSO of Shanghai Genomics, later participated in other activities at BIO 2004. 

2004/04/15    Dr. Ying Luo was invited to give a speech at The Second Chinese Pharmaceutical Industry Summit Forum-2004: Division Point, Test Stone.  The title of his speech was "The Road to Success for a Chinese Biotechnology Company" during which he analyzed in detail the international competitive advantages of a biotech company in China and emphasized the importance of international collaborations to do innovative research.  He also participated in the subsequent panel discussion.

2004/04/13    Dr. Jun Wu, CSO of Shanghai Genomics, attended the Drug Discovery in Developing Countries Conference.  He participated in the Drug Research and Collaboration Strategy discussion, and exchanged new ideas with executives from multinational drug companies.

2004/04/12    Dr. Arthur Weiss and Dr. Lewis L. Lanier, members of the Scientific Advisory Board of Shanghai Genomics, were invited to visit the company and gave technical seminars to the company’s scientists. Titles of the seminars were “The Molecular Mechanism of T Cell Activation” and “NK Cell and Tumor.”  Scientists from both Shanghai Genomics and the Shanghai area attended the seminar and exchanged ideas with Dr. Weiss and Dr. Lanier.  They also reviewed with Shanghai Genomics’ executives and scientists the progress of Shanghai the company’s current R&D programs.

2004/04/08    Prof. Kenichi Arai, Acting Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science and a Trustee of the Tokyo Metropolitan Organization for Medical Research, was invited to visit Shanghai Genomics.  Dr. Ying Luo and Dr. Jun Wu, CEO and CSO of Shanghai Genomics, respectively, presented the company’s genomics research platform and exchanged ideas with him about the biotech industry in Asia.  Prof. Arai was also invited to join Shanghai Genomics’ Scientific Advisory Board. 

2004/03/15    The Party Secretary and Deputy Director of Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, Li Junming and his colleagues visited the company and encouraged scientists to play greater roles in the campaign of "Rejuvenating This City through Science and Education"

2004/03/02    Dr. Ying Luo, CEO of Shanghai Genomics, was invited to present the company’s history and science at the 8th Nomura BioConference - Asia Pacific.  While there, he had lunch with Former US Trade Representative, Ambassador Charlene Barshelshy, in Tokyo, Japan 

2004/02/10    Shanghai Genomics was selected as an emerging company to present its corporate strategy at the 2nd North America BioPartnering Conference in Vancouver, Canada

2004/01/18    Dr. Ying Luo, CEO of Shanghai Genomics, was interviewed by www.cnyiren.com to describe the company's history.
