Integrating biology, chemistry, animal, and clinical studies in house, the Company is aiming at building the first novel drug discovery platform in China for fibrosis, cancer, inflammation and viral infection diseases. This DNA-to-NDA platform will significantly speed up the process from gene to drugs at a fraction of the cost normally associated with drug development in developed countries.
  Armed with the vast knowledge pool generated from the Human Genome Project, we focused on drugable genes such as kinase, phosphatase, and protease. To elucidate their function, more than 300 carefully selected potential target genes have been systematically studied by analyzing protei-protein interaction, gene expression profile in disease tissues, protein function in disease-related signal transduction pathways. These validated targets lay a solid foundation for downstream drug development.
   Through our technology platform, Shanghai Genomics has discovered several new members of a tumor surface antigen family (RLs), which can be specifically recognized by immune killer cells (NK), and a group of new kinases involved in cell cycle regulation. These genes can be either used as diagnostic markers or high throughput screening target. Compunds from both chemistry synthesis and Chinese herb medicine are used to look for new kinase inhibitors. To supplement biochemical screening, the Company has also built a highly sensitive fluorescence-based cell model for in vivo drug screening, which is characterized by high speed, low dosage, high specificity, and more closely resembling physiological conditions.
To generate new chemical entity, our chemistry group has also designed new compounds for anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, and anti-cancer applications. These compunds can be tested in various biochemical, cellular, and animal models for efficacy study. We also licese-in pre-clincal stage compounds from other US-based biotech companies to take advantage of our efficient pre-clinical and clinical studies in China. Combing our chemistry synthesis power and our sophiticated biology is the key to the Company’s future drug development program.
Shanghai Genomics also seeks for rigorous IP protection by filing both domestic and PCT patents on proprietary drug lead or target discovered in the Company. This will not only ensure the irreplaceable position of our products in domestic market, but also pave the path for their entrance into the global market.
